Do you know the production method of Stainless Steel Clad Plate?

Nov. 30, 2019

Stainless Steel Clad Plate is a composite plate steel plate combined with a carbon steel base layer and a stainless steel coating. Its main feature is the strong metallurgical combination of carbon steel and stainless steel. It can perform various processes such as hot pressing, cold bending, cutting, welding, etc., and has good process performance. It is used in petroleum, chemical industry, the salt industry and food processing. Its main features are corrosion resistance and low cost. The production method is to place stainless steel plates on the carbon steel substrate. The base material of the stainless steel composite plate can use various ordinary carbon steels and special steels such as Q235B, Q345R, 20R. The coating material can use various grades of stainless steel such as 304, 316L, 1Cr13 and duplex stainless steel. The material and thickness can be freely combined to meet the needs of different users. Stainless steel composite plate not only has the corrosion resistance of stainless steel, but also has the good mechanical strength and processing performance of carbon steel. It is a new type of industrial product. Stainless steel composite plate has been widely used in petroleum, chemical, salt industry, water conservancy and electric power, and other industries. Stainless steel composite plate, as a resource-saving product, reduces the consumption of precious metals and greatly reduces the construction cost. To achieve the perfect combination of low cost and high performance has good social benefits.

Production method

How is the stainless steel composite plate produced? As Clad Plate Suppliers, I will tell you that there are two main methods for the industrial production of stainless steel clad plates, explosive composite and hot rolled stainless steel sheet.

Hot Rolled Stainless Steel Sheet

Hot Rolled Stainless Steel Sheet

The production process of the explosive composite plate is that the stainless steel plates are superposed on the carbon steel substrate and a certain distance is separated between the stainless steel plate and the carbon steel substrate with a mat. Explosives are tiled on the stainless steel plate and the energy of the explosive explosion causes the stainless steel plate to hit the carbon steel substrate at high speed, generating high temperature and high pressure so that the interface between the two materials can be solid-phase welded. Ideally, the shear strength per square millimeter of the interface can reach 400 MPa.

The Hot Rolled Stainless Steel Sheet process is a process in which carbon steel substrates and stainless steel plates are in a physically pure state and rolled under high vacuum conditions. The two metals diffuse during the rolling process to achieve a complete metallurgical combination. Of course, in order to improve the wetting effect of the composite interface and increase the bonding strength, a series of technical measures must be taken in the physical and chemical treatment of the interface.

Hot rolling composite process features

1. Large medium plate mill and hot rolling mill are used for production, so the production efficiency is high and the supply speed is fast. The product has large format and free thickness combination. Stainless steel cladding thickness can be produced above 0.5mm. But the investment is large, so there are fewer manufacturers.

2. Due to the limitation of the rolled steel compression ratio, hot-rolled production cannot yet produce composite steel plates with a thickness of more than 50mm, and it is not convenient to produce various small-batch, round and other special shapes of composite plates. Advantages of hot-rolled composite sheet 6,8,10 mm thin gauge composite sheet. Under the condition of hot continuous rolling, it can produce composite coils, reduce production costs, and meet more user needs.

3. Under the current technical conditions, the hot rolling process cannot directly produce titanium, copper, aluminum and other non-ferrous metal composite plates.

In summary, the two very different production processes each have their own characteristics, and they exist and develop at the same time to meet the diverse needs of different users. The explosive rolling method is a combination of the foregoing two processes and will not be described again.
